The Right to Information Commission (RTIC) held its 2026 Stakeholders’ Conference on Thursday, 24 September 2026, at the Lancaster Hotel, Accra, as part of activities marking Right to Information Month.

Held under the theme “𝐔𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐠𝐞: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫”, the conference brought together representatives of government, the diplomatic corps, civil society, the media, development organisations, students and other stakeholders.

In her welcome address, Ms Genevieve Shirley Lartey, Executive Secretary and Commissioner of the RTIC, called for the responsible use of emerging technologies, accurate reporting by the media and proactive disclosure by public institutions to help safeguard information integrity.

The keynote address was delivered by Ms Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, Legal Advisor to the President, on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana. Madam Shamima Muslim delivered a special address on behalf of the Minister for Government Communications. Mr Carl Ampah delivered a goodwill message on behalf of Mr Edmond Moukala, Head of the UNESCO Office in Ghana.

The programme also featured remarks by Dr James Kwaku Asante, Chairperson of the RTIC Governing Board. The Commission was honoured by the presence of Hon. Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, Minister of State for Public Sector Reforms, and a strong representation from the diplomatic corps.

The panel discussion was moderated by 𝐌𝐚𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐬𝐢 𝐍𝐲𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐤𝐲𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐬𝐨𝐧 and featured:

• 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐄𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐁𝐞𝐝𝐳𝐫𝐚𝐡— Member of Parliament for Ho West and RTI advocate;

• 𝐌𝐫𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐡 — Head of Office, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) Africa;

• 𝐌𝐫 𝐊𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐮 𝐊𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐚 𝐀𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞— Programme Manager, Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA); and

• 𝐌𝐫𝐬 𝐄𝐭𝐭𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐞, 𝐄𝐬𝐪. — Deputy Director-General for Managerial Operations, National Communications Authority (NCA).

The panellists shared perspectives on access to information, digital communication, information integrity and practical ways to address misinformation and other forms of information disorder. Participants also had the opportunity to contribute to the discussion.

The conference reaffirmed that access to timely, accurate and reliable information is essential to transparency, accountability and meaningful participation in democratic governance.
